Over the New Year’s weekend of 2017, we headed to the mountains of North Carolina. We spent some time in Brevard and learned that the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed near Brevard in the winter. So then we headed to Franklin and hiked up to Siler Bald via the Appalachian Trail. That was nice. The views from the top of the mountain are great, and we had the trail to ourselves on New Years Eve. The hike is not very steep, making this a great hike. I think it can get outrageously crowded during warmer weather, but it was nice in the winter.
