In November 2005, Tracy, Jessica, and I went to Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho, and then we drove through the Grand Teton National park in Wyoming. Craters of the Moon was pretty cool. It’s a small park, but it has some really strange geography. The entire landscape is just old volcanic activity. There are some cool lava tubes that you can explore, but mostly the landscape is just interesting for all of its lava features. It was really cold and windy out there, so we pretty much had the park to ourselves.
After leaving there, we decided that we had exhausted the south-eastern Idaho possibilities since it was really cold, so we headed over to the Tetons. It was snowing pretty good in the mountains, and it was nice to get into our first real snow of the season. In fact, it snowed the whole time we were in Wyoming, so Jessica still didn’t get to see the Tetons. She’s convinced that there are no mountains anywhere near Jackson, WY. But we did see a lot of wildlife in the Tetons. And I at least have some pictures of some really playful and curious river otters. We thought we even saw a wolf, but after finding the tracks, I think it was a coyote. If it was, it was the biggest coyote I’ve ever seen, but these tracks just look too small to be a wolf, I think. But we had a nice road trip. We also made a side trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Flats were flooded out, but that made for some really cool pictures.
