Stephens Gap

On June 3, 2018, I went to Stephens Gap Cave with Alexander.  We bounced a pit called Pipeside near Stephens Gap, then hiked up to Stephens Gap and rappelled down into it.  These were my first vertical caves with my new Mitchell climbing system, and I was much happier with it than the Frog I was previously using.  There’s nothing wrong with the Frog system, but it’s just not designed for short people who are all torso and no legs.  I am pretty much the poster child for the type of person who should not use the Frog system.  I was much faster on the Mitchell, so I think I’ll be happy with it.

But these are great caves.  Stephens Gap is beautiful with its double entrances.  I had been in it previously through the horizontal entrance, so this was my first time in the vertical entrance.
